Technology is fundamentally about optimization. When thumbed primitives first picked up a rock and used it to paint a sunset (which we know was the reason the first rock was used as a tool) they were optimizing. They used an object/method to do something faster or better than they could previously when they used only their own flesh and blood.
Now, as I write this post, I’ve got myriad Thermo design deliverables due tomorrow, and a clear but long path towards completion. I’ve also got a need to post to this blog, because there are a few dope typographic portfolios waiting in the queue. But, because I’m a designer and obsess about the details, I can’t post the portfolios until I wrap their associated imagery in my little image frame, which requires me to open Fireworks, do some resizing, create and apply a layer mask, do some more resizing, and then finally save as JPG (and sometimes set my quality settings), then proceed through Wordpress’s asinine image embedding process. This is not an optimized workflow, in the least. So that’s my rant.
And I’m interested in any workflow optimization rants any of you have, be it about Adobe products, or about sitting in traffic, or about the tube stopping in the middle of the tunnel in the middle of summer. Really, comment on any optimization rant you have (but make sure it’s related to technology, somehow).
Post rants to the comments section. The best rant gets an eBoy AIR poster, postage paid.

Creating flex applications from comps created in other Adobe products is too painful..
I cant stand the Flex framework invalidation model!
Wouldn’t it be great if we had some software that could generate a Flex app from a photoshop comp…
ps. I’ll trade the airBoy poster for a Flex 4/Thermo beta list invite ; )

WordPress 2.5 may ease at least part of the issue. They’ve made some big steps in image/media upload and management. Not sure how practical that would be for you, but it should ease at least one small pain point. Lots of food for thought there.

People who come on holiday to Cornwall and still insist on getting to the beach by 9am and leaving at 5:30. Please tell me why?? You are on holiday and you end up sitting in traffic with all the other poor sods who have to go to work.
Relax a little, sleep in late - I know it’s difficult if you are on some campsite with a million other screaming families, so if you are an early bird, go for an early morning stroll, maybe buy some breakfast or just appreciate where you are, more than you would viewing it from a car.
Maybe head to the beach, or some other place you are visiting, at about 9:30 - leave at 4pm before the rush, or wait until 6pm after it. Make sure you have left the beach by 6 though because that’s the time all the locals turn up after work and it gets a bit crowded then too, but you have to get back to fire up the barbie, so that’s a good time to leave anyway.
Hey presto, beach time is optimised for all. Now if only the public transport infrastructure did not suck like the 1700’s, we could lessen the strain on the road too…
